IADT <\/strong>has been teaching film in D\u00fan Laoghaire since 1984 and the National Film School at IADT<\/strong> was launched in November 2003. It is a centre of excellence for education and training in film, animation, broadcasting, and digital media. This status is based on the consistently high achievements of its student productions in both professional competitions and festivals at home and abroad, the careers of its graduates in the entertainment and media industries, and on the excellence of its staff. IADT\u2019s<\/strong> full-time and part-time staff possess considerable industry experience and a high proportion continue to work as practitioners.<\/div>\n

IADT\u2019s Faculty of Film, Art & Creative Technologies<\/strong> boasts the largest selection of film-related courses in Ireland \u2013 spanning film and TV production, animation, and photography \u2013 and offers the only degree courses in the country in modelmaking for TV and media and design for stage and screen. An entire generation of award-winning Irish filmmakers owe their success to the skills IADT<\/strong> equipped them with as students.<\/p>\n

Such alumni include cinematographer Robbie Ryan<\/strong>, who in 2016 won a British Independent Film Award for his cinematography on American Honey<\/em><\/span>; Academy Award\u00ae<\/sup> nominated Kirsten Sheridan<\/strong>, director of August Rush<\/em><\/span> and writer of In America<\/em><\/span>; Aisling Walsh<\/strong>, director of Song for a Raggy Boy<\/em><\/span>; Ciar\u00e1n Donnelly<\/strong>, director of episodes of The Tudors<\/em><\/span>, Camelot<\/em><\/span>, and Vikings<\/em><\/span>; Ciar\u00e1n Foy<\/strong>, director of Citadel<\/em><\/span>; James Mather<\/strong>, cinematographer on Lockout<\/em><\/span> and Adam & Paul<\/em><\/span>; and Peter Foott<\/strong>, who\u2019s debut feature The Young Offenders<\/em><\/span> has broken all box office records for a low-budget Irish film.<\/p>\n

At the animation end of the spectrum, notable IADT<\/strong> graduates include Conor Finnegan<\/strong>, whose short Fear of Flying<\/em><\/span> was nominated for Best Short and Best Animation at this year\u2019s IFTAs; BAFTA-nominated animators Eamonn O\u2019Neill<\/strong> and Jack O\u2019Shea<\/strong>, who directed the incredibly successful A Coat Made Dark<\/em><\/span>, which was selected for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n

New programmes launched in 2017 include an exciting new Erasmus Mundus-funded Joint Master of Arts in Cinematography with partners in Estonia and Hungary and a new Master of Arts in Creative Production & Screen Finance.<\/p>\n

Finally, IADT<\/strong> is the only Irish full member of CILECT, the International Association of Film and Television Schools.<\/p>\n
