For the last two months, the cinematography fans have had a chance to witness the awards being granted by the following associations: BAFTA, Critics\u2019 Choice, ASC, Film Independent and many more. The cinematography category abounded in the filmmakers who already had a chance to show their works to the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #d29600;\">EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/span>\u00a0audience back in 2021.<\/strong><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This year\u2019s Academy Award competition has become an incredibly tight race. From the very beginning, the biggest chances had two distinguished filmmakers. <span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>The\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Power of the Dog<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span><strong>Ari Wegner<\/strong><span>\u00a0received the Critic\u2019s Choice Award and nominations from the British Society of Cinematographers (as well as nominations for the BAFTA and ASC Awards). On the other hand,\u00a0<\/span><strong>Greig Fraser\u2019s<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Dune\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>brought him the BAFTA and the American Society of Cinematographers Awards (also nominations for the awards from the BSC and the CCA). The newest <strong>Jane Campion\u2019s<\/strong> and <strong>Denis Villeneuve\u2019s<\/strong> productions have also brought them the greatest number of the Academy Award nominations. The Oscar\u00ae statuette in the Best Directing category was awarded to\u00a0<\/span><strong>Jane Campion<\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>The Power of the Dog<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>, while\u00a0<\/span><span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Dune<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span>won in such categories as: Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Music (Original Score) and Best Sound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The choice of films competing in the Best Cinematography category was very consistent. Apart from the works of\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Ari Wegner<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span>and\u00a0<\/span><strong>Greig Fraser<\/strong><span>, the other six productions were on the list of international associations with a potential distinction, four of which were shown at the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><strong>EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2021<\/strong><\/span><span>.\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Kenneth<\/strong> <strong>Branagh<\/strong><\/span><span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>together with\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Haris<\/strong> <strong>Zambarloukos\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span>arrived at the Festival in order to show the effect of their cooperation \u2013\u00a0<\/span><span>Belfast<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>received nominations for the BAFTA, ASC and Critics\u2019 Choice Awards.\u00a0<\/span><strong>Joel Coen<\/strong><span>\u00a0supported\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Brunon Delbonnel<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span>in person in the race for the\u00a0<\/span><span>Golden Frog\u00a0<\/span><span>in the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><strong>EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span>Main Competition.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>The Tragedy of Macbeth<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span>presented as the opening screening (nominations for the Oscar\u00ae, BAFTA, ASC, BSC, Critics\u2019 Choice Awards) left Toru\u0144 with the\u00a0<\/span><strong>Silver Frog<\/strong><span>. The screening of\u00a0<\/span><em><strong>No Time to Die<\/strong><\/em><span>\u00a0(the BAFTA nomination) at the Closing Gala ceremony was also honoured by the presence of the filmmakers:\u00a0<\/span><strong>Linus Sandgren<\/strong><span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><strong>Cary Joji Fukunaga<\/strong><span>\u00a0handed the awards in the Student Etudes Competition, and conducted a seminar which was devoted to their work on the last adventures of James Bond with<\/span><span>\u00a0<strong>Daniel Craig<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0in the title role. During\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><strong>EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2021<\/strong><\/span><span>,\u00a0<\/span><strong>Joe Wright<\/strong><span>\u00a0\u2013 the head of the Main Competition jury \u2013 presented his latest movie\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Cyrano<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>(the BSC Awards nominations) together with\u00a0<\/span><strong>Seamus McGarvey<\/strong><span>, the cinematographer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The remaining significant movies were\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Nightmare Alley<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0(directed by\u00a0<\/span><strong>Guillermo del Toro<\/strong><span>) with the photography by\u00a0<\/span><strong>Dan Laustsen<\/strong><span>\u00a0(the Oscar\u00ae, BAFTA, ASC, Critics\u2019 Choice Awards nominations) and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>West Side Story<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0(directed by\u00a0<\/span><strong>Steven Spielberg<\/strong><span>) with\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>Janusz Kami\u0144ski\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span>photography (the Oscar\u00ae, BSC, Critics\u2019 Choice Awards nominations).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2022, the nominations for the Film Independent Award were not the reflection of other awards in the American film industry. This year\u2019s laureate was\u00a0<\/span><strong>Eduard Grau<\/strong><span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>for his film\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Passing<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>(directed by\u00a0<\/span><strong>Rebecca Hall<\/strong><span>). The director\u2019s work was appreciated at our Festival by being included in the Directors\u2019 Debuts Competition. The cinematographer met the audience after the film screening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As in previous years, alongside other film awards stirring emotions and stealing the attention with its Hollywood style, the European Film Awards were granted. This year\u2019s laureate of the European Cinematography was\u00a0<\/span><span>Crystel Fournier<\/span><span>, which was the appreciation for her work on the movie\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em><strong>Great Freedom<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Sebastian Meise<\/strong><span>\u00a0with this movie was nominated for the Directors\u2019 Debut Competition at the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><strong>EnergaCAMERIMAGE\u00a02021<\/strong><\/span><span>.
