The works of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE selection committee for its 30<\/b>th<\/b> edition are still ongoing. The programmers <\/span>are bending over backwards to choose real gems for our festival audience from hundreds of titles submitted in the past months. Although the full line-ups will not be announced until early autumn, today we are ready to share a little secret with you and reveal the first film that will compete for the Golden Frog in the Main Competition.<\/b><\/p>\n

The film that will compete for the most important award in EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong><\/span>\u2019s international competition will be <\/span>The Perfect Number<\/span><\/i><\/span>, the latest film by <\/span>Krzysztof Zanussi<\/b> with cinematography by <\/span>Piotr Niemyjski<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Perfect Number<\/span><\/i> <\/span>tells the story of a young mathematician David (played by Jan Marczewski<\/strong>), who subjected his whole life to the research on prime numbers, sacrificing his personal life to this work\u00a0<\/span>. The protagonist begins to gradually reevaluate his priorities after he meets his distant relative, Joachim (played by Andrzej Seweryn<\/strong>), a successful man who has achieved practically everything professionally and decides to spend the last years of his life in his native Poland. The meeting of these two will unexpectedly influence the fate of both, leading to reflection on the mysterious ways of life, its passing and meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Krzysztof Zanussi<\/b> (born 1939), film and theater director, screenwriter, producer, essayist, philosopher and physicist, considered one of the most outstanding and characteristic directors in the history of Polish cinema. Creator of such films as <\/span>Family Life<\/span><\/i><\/span> (1970), <\/span>The Illumination<\/span><\/i><\/span> (1972), <\/span>Camouflage<\/span><\/i><\/span> (1976), <\/span>The Spiral<\/span><\/i><\/span> (1978), <\/span>The Constant Factor<\/span> <\/span><\/i>(1980), <\/span>Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2000), <\/span>Persona non grata<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2005) and many others, for which he was appreciated at international festivals, such as Cannes, Berlin or Locarno. For the film <\/span>A Year of the Quiet Sun<\/span><\/i><\/span> (1984), he received the Golden Lion at the Venice Festival. Multiple winner of Polish Film Awards and Golden Lions at Gdynia Film Festival. He has held many positions in institutions related to Polish film and published several books about cinema. He lectured, among others, at the British National Film School, Lodz Film School or Collegium Civitas in Warsaw. In 2021, he was honored with Platinum Lions for Lifetime Achievement at the Film Festival in Gdynia. His cinema is characterized by a reflective, existential mood and insightful observations of a philosophical and theological nature. By showing the inner lives of his protagonists, he fleshes out their internal moral conflicts, which are always marked by accurate reflections on the condition of mankind in the contemporary world.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Piotr Niemyjski<\/b> (born 1978), a graduate of the Cinematography Studies at the Lodz Film School. In his professional career, he has collaborated with filmmakers such as Krzysztof Zanussi, Agnieszka Holland, Jolanta Dylewska, Katarzyna Kozyra, Ewa Stankiewicz, Rafael Lewandowski, Bartosz Konopka, Ozan Aciktan, Kordian Piwowarski, Leiv Igor Devold and Kei Ishikawa. Creator of feature films and documentaries, as well as advertising projects. As a cinematographer, he was responsible for the visual side of such films as <\/span>Fear of Falling<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2011), <\/span>Baczynski<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2013), <\/span>Foreign Body<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2014), <\/span>Z dala od orkiestry<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2017), <\/span>Eter<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2018), and <\/span>Listen to the Universe<\/span> <\/span><\/i>(2019). Winner of the award at the M\u0142odzi i Film Festival in the Full-Length Feature Debuts Competition – Jantar for his cinematography for <\/span>Nie opuszczaj mnie<\/span><\/i><\/span> (2009).<\/span><\/p>\n
