When we hear about production design in films and TV series, quite often what we imagine is something that is visible, tangible; physical construction of various types of structures, adapting existing buildings to specific time periods, decorating interiors with whatever they need to be decorated with. Simply put, creating optimal conditions for the cast and crew to make the film. But the profession of a production designer is much more complicated than that, it consists of leading a team of people and controlling every element of a given set, from choosing the suitable props and arranging them accordingly, to considering colours, shapes, textures, both physical and virtual etc. Hence, together with directors and cinematographers they create plausible, physical or virtual, worlds of the past, the present, or the future, while bringing to life what existed before only on the pages of a screenplay.<\/p>\n

Throughout the years EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong> awarded many distinguished members of this profession: John Myhre<\/strong> (Chicago<\/em><\/span>, Memoirs of a Geisha<\/em><\/span>), Dante Ferretti<\/strong> (Interview with a Vampire<\/span><\/em>, The Aviator<\/span><\/em>), Lilly Kilvert<\/strong> (Legends of the Fall<\/span><\/em>, The Last Samura<\/span><\/em>i), Arthur Max<\/strong> (Se7en<\/span><\/em>, Gladiator<\/span><\/em>), Allan Starski<\/strong> (Schindler\u2019s List<\/span><\/em>, The Pianist<\/span><\/em>), Stuart Craig<\/strong> (Gandhi<\/span><\/em>, Harry Potter<\/span><\/em> film series), Jack Fisk<\/strong> (The Thin Red Line<\/span><\/em>, There Will Be Blood<\/em><\/span>), Rick Carter<\/strong> (Jurassic Park<\/em><\/span>, Avatar<\/span><\/em>), Jeannine Oppewall<\/strong> (L.A. Confidential<\/span><\/em>, Pleasantville<\/span><\/em>), Eve Stewart<\/strong> (The King\u2019s Speech<\/span><\/em>, Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/span><\/em>), Dennis Gassner<\/strong> (Skyfall<\/span><\/em>, Blade Runner 2049<\/span><\/em>), Adam Stockhausen<\/strong> (The Grand Budapest Hotel<\/span><\/em>, Bridge of Spies<\/span><\/em>), and Jan Roelfs<\/strong> (Gattaca<\/span><\/em>, Alexander<\/span><\/em>). It is thus our distinct pleasure to announce that the great Sarah Greenwood<\/strong> will accept our Special Award for Production Designer<\/strong> during the upcoming 30th<\/sup> anniversary edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you love cinema, it is entirely possible that among your favourite films there is at least one on which Sarah Greenwood<\/strong> worked as a production designer. From reimagining the late 18th century England in Joe Wright\u2019s<\/strong> Pride and Prejudice<\/span><\/em> to reinventing the late 19th century London with Guy Ritchie<\/strong> and his Sherlock Holmes<\/em><\/span> and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadow<\/span><\/em>s, from recreating the Great Britain\u2019s struggles during the Second World War in Joe Wright\u2019s <\/strong>Darkest Hour<\/em><\/span> to representing one of the most beloved Disney\u2019s animation of all time in live-action feature adaptation in Bill Condon\u2019s <\/strong>B<\/strong>eauty and the Beast<\/span> <\/em>\u2013 Greenwood<\/strong> has always used her instincts, skills and immense imagination to wow the audiences throughout the world.<\/p>\n

She was nominated for an Academy Award\u00ae<\/sup> six times, for the previously mentioned Pride and Prejudice<\/em><\/span>, Sherlock Holmes<\/em><\/span>, Beauty and the Beast<\/span> <\/em>and Darkest Hour<\/span> <\/em>as well as Joe Wright\u2019s Atonement<\/span> <\/em>and Anna Karenina<\/span><\/em>. Greenwood<\/strong> collaborated with Wright<\/strong> on most of his feature films, including The Soloist<\/span><\/em>, Hanna<\/span> <\/em>and last year\u2019s Cyrano<\/span><\/em>, yet her most trusted collaborator is set decorator Katie Spence<\/strong>r. They have been working since 1998\u2019s The Governess<\/span> <\/em>(dir. Sandra Goldbacher<\/strong>) and share Oscar\u00ae<\/sup> nominations as well as other industry distinctions. They recently worked on Greta Gerwig\u2019s<\/strong> Barbie<\/span><\/em> that will hit the screens next year.<\/p>\n

\nThe Festival participants will soon have a chance to ask them about their work on this and other projects as well as personally thank them for all the years of cinematic excitement they have given us, as both Sarah Greenwood<\/strong> and Katie Spencer<\/strong> are going to visit Torun<\/strong>. Therefore, we invite everyone to participate in the 30th<\/sup> anniversary edition of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival<\/strong> which will be held between 12th and 19th November 2022<\/span>.<\/p>\n
