The Oscar\u00ae night spirit is still ahead of us. Within a week, the winners of the prestigious Academy Award\u00ae in all the announced categories will be revealed. Nonetheless, the awards season does not only revolve around the verdict of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Recently, the American (ASC) and British (BSC) Societies of Cinematographers also have given their awards, honoring the best productions of 2022 in terms of their visual aspects.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>A few hours ago, the 37th Annual ASC Awards<\/strong> ceremony came to an end. It took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. We proudly announce that all the pictures nominated in the Theatrical Feature Film category could be watched at the latest edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong> in Toru\u0144.<\/strong><\/span> <\/p>\n

The Society distinguished: the recipient of the Silver Frog Award \u2013 Darius Khondji, ASC, AFC<\/strong> for Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths<\/em><\/span> (dir. Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu); granted with the Festival Director\u2019s Special Awards \u2013 Mandy Walker, ASC, ACS<\/strong> for Elvis<\/em><\/span> (dir. Baz Luhrmann) and Claudio Miranda, ASC<\/strong> for Top Gun: Maverick<\/em> <\/span>(dir. Joseph Kosinski); the Main Competition nominee \u2013 Roger Deakins, ASC, BSC <\/strong>for Empire of Light<\/em> <\/span>(dir. Sam Mendes); as well as Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS<\/strong> whose movie, The Batman<\/em><\/span> (re\u017c. Matt Reeves), was part of our Special Screening section.<\/p>\n

Mandy Walker<\/strong> turned out to be the best from the best being rewarded for\u00a0Elvis <\/em><\/span>directed by Baz Luhrmann<\/strong>. She is the first woman to win the ASC\u2019s trophy in the Theatrical Feature Film category. <\/p>\n

Mandy Walker<\/strong>, for her work on the set of Elvis<\/span><\/em>, alongside the ASC Award, the Oscar\u00ae nomination and the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Festival<\/strong> <\/span>Director\u2019s Special Award was also granted with the following distinctions: AACTA Awards granted by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, as well as nominations for BAFTA Film Award, British Society of Cinematographers Award, Satellite Award, and many others. <\/p>\n

However, the good news does not end here. Presented at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/span> <\/strong>Main Competition War Sailor<\/span> <\/em>(dir. Gunnar Vikene) photographed by Sturla Brandth Gr\u00f8vlen<\/strong> received the Spotlight Award, and one of the nominees in the Documentary Features Competition, All That Breathes<\/em><\/span> (dir. Ben Bernhard, Riju Das, cin. Ben Bernhard, Riju Das, Saumyananda Sahi<\/strong>) won in the documentary category. In addition, several honorary awards were handed out that night, among others, Darius Khondji<\/strong>, the recipient of the Silver Frog Award for Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths<\/em> <\/span>(dir. Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu), received the International Award.<\/p>\n

A few weeks earlier, the British Society of Cinematographers also announced their awards. Also in this case, all the features nominated by BSC were a part of the 30th EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong> <\/span>program, and the cinematographers responsible for their visuals had a chance to meet personally with our festival audience. <\/p>\n

Among them were: the Golden Frog recipient \u2013 Florian Hoffmeister, BSC<\/strong> nominated for T\u00e1r<\/em><\/span> (dir. Todd Field); the Festival Director\u2019s Special Award laureate \u2013 Mandy Walker, ASC, ACS<\/strong> for Elvis<\/em> <\/span>(dir. Baz Luhrmann); the Main Competition nominee \u2013 James Friend, ASC, BSC<\/strong> for All Quiet on the Western Front<\/span> <\/em>(dir. Edward Berger); as well as Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS<\/strong> for The Batman<\/em><\/span> (dir. Matt Reeves), and Ben Davis, BSC<\/strong> for The Banshees of Inisherin<\/em><\/span> (dir. Martin McDonagh), whose films were presented in the festival Special Screenings section. <\/p>\n

The winner was revealed during the\u00a067th BSC Awards ceremony<\/strong> which was held on February 11 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. It was James Friend<\/strong>, awarded for the film All Quiet on the Western Front<\/em><\/span>, directed by Edward Berger<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

For his work on the set of this motion picture, James Friend<\/strong> received the prestigious BAFTA Award granted by the British Film Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Oscar\u00ae nomination in the Best Cinematography category and a number of international distinctions \u2013 granted by both film festivals and the associations of film critics.<\/p>\n
