We are only four weeks away from meeting you in Toru\u0144 during the 31st<\/sup> edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival<\/strong> <\/span>and celebrating together the most impressive achievements in the art of cinematography. Thus, today we want to present the first three films that we will screen in November in the Main Competition.<\/p>\n

Here are the first three Golden Frog nominees:<\/span><\/p>\n

NAPOLEON<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We are happy to hold the first festival screening of the latest feature from director Ridley Scott<\/strong> (Gladiator<\/span><\/em>, Kingdom of Heaven<\/span><\/em>), Napoleon<\/span><\/em>, a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise of the iconic Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Oscar\u00ae-winner Joaquin Phoenix<\/strong>. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by Scott<\/strong>, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed. Napoleon’s<\/span><\/em> epic visuals were the work of cinematographer Dariusz Wolski<\/strong> who began his collaboration with Scott<\/strong> with 2012’s Prometheus<\/span><\/em>. Many of their projects have been screened in EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/span> <\/strong>competitions: The Martian<\/span><\/em> in the 3D Films Competition in 2015, The Last Duel<\/span><\/em> in the Main Competition in 2021 and Raised by Wolves’<\/span> <\/em>pilot in TV Series Competition in 2020. Wolski<\/strong> was also nominated in the 3D Films Competition in 2015 for Robert Zemeckis’<\/strong> The Walk<\/span><\/em> and in 2009 he received the Special Award to the Polish Cinematographer for Immense Contribution to the Art of Film. Dariusz<\/strong> will be introducing Napoleon<\/span><\/em> at EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/strong><\/span> and participating in a Q&A following the screening. Napoleon<\/em><\/span> will be released exclusively in cinemas worldwide on November 22. <\/p>\n

THE NEW BOY<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Australian film auteur of Aboriginal descent Warwick Thornton<\/strong> once again sets his story against the backdrop of Australia’s tumultous past. In a remote monastery in 1940s Australia, a mission for Aboriginal children is run by a renegade nun, Sister Eileen (Cate Blanchett<\/strong>). When one of her charges (Aswan Reid<\/strong>) becomes transfixed with the Christ’s message, the nun is faced with one of the most difficult decisions of her life. Warwick Thornton<\/strong> was not only The New Boy’s<\/span><\/em> writer and director but also the film’s cinematographer, just as in the case of his Sweet Country<\/span><\/em> (Main Competition nominee and FIPRESCI Award winner in 2017) which he shot together with his son, Dylan River<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

MAESTRO<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

Writer\/director Bradley Cooper<\/strong> presents the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein’s (Cooper<\/strong>) incredible and emotionally complex life story as seen through his relationship with Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Carey Mulligan<\/strong>). Maestro<\/em><\/span> shows the magnitude of Bernstein’s genius but also depicts the mosaic of his private life. Cooper’s<\/strong> directorial feature debut A Star Is Born<\/span><\/em> was lensed by Matthew Libatique<\/strong> and earned the cinematographer his fourth Golden Frog nomination (he was previously nominated for Darren Aronfsky’s<\/strong> The Fountain<\/span><\/em>, Black Swan<\/span><\/em> and mother!<\/span><\/em>, and in 2010 he and Aronofsky<\/strong> received Camerimage Cinematographer-Director Duo Award). Cooper<\/strong> and Libatique<\/strong> also collaborated on Maestro<\/span><\/em>, creating yet another film to remember.<\/p>\n
