As a middle-aged woman, she refused to be remembered as a model and male artists\u2019 muse. Lee Miller defied the expectations and rules of the time by traveling to Europe to report from the frontline during WWII. There, in part as a reaction to her own well-hidden trauma, she used her Rolleiflex camera to give a voice to the voiceless. What she captured on film in Dachau and throughout Europe was shocking and horrific. Her photographs of the war, its victims and its consequences remain among the most significant and historically important of the Second World War. She changed war photography forever, but Lee Miller paid an enormous personal price for what she witnessed and the stories she fought to tell.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Miller&#8217;s story was brought to the big screen by the distinguished cinematographer <strong>Ellen Kuras<\/strong> for whom this is a feature debut as a director. On<span style=\"color: #d29600;\"> <em>Lee<\/em><\/span> she collaborated with Polish cinematographer <strong>Pawe\u0142 Edelman<\/strong> form whom this will be fourth Main Competition. He won Bronze Frog in 1997 for <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Family Events<\/span><\/em> and was nominated in 2016 for <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Afterimage<\/span><\/em> as well as\u00a0 in 2019 for <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Office and the Spy<\/span><\/em>. Also in 2019 he was nominated in the Polish Films Competition for his work on <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Coldest Game<\/span><\/em>. Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.<\/p>\n<p>The emotionally intense <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Society of the Snow<\/span><\/em>, this year&#8217;s Spain&#8217;s Oscar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> submission, was shot by <strong>Pedro Luque <\/strong>for whom this is not only first <strong><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">EnergaCAMERIMAGE Main Competition<\/span><\/strong> nomination but also first film screened in <strong>Toru\u0144<\/strong>. We have presented several <strong>J.A. Bayona&#8217;s<\/strong> projects, most recently in 2022 when <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power&#8217;s<\/span> <\/em>pilot episode was an entry in our TV Series Competition. Both <strong>Pedro Luque<\/strong> and <strong>J.A. With <span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em>Toni Erdmann&#8217;s<\/em><\/span> <strong>Sandra H\u00fcller<\/strong> and <span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em>The White Ribbon&#8217;s<\/em><\/span> <strong>Christian Friedel<\/strong> in the leading roles of Hewdig and Rudolf H\u00f6ss. International media called <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Zone of Interest<\/span><\/em> a chilling and profound film (Variety) that will haunt you long after seeing it (Deadline), as well as a film that is terribly necessary to its time (Vanity Fair) and illustrating the banality of evil (Indiewire).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #d29600;\"><em>The Zone of Interest<\/em><\/span> marks the first collaboration between director <strong>Jonathan Glazer<\/strong> and cinematographer <strong>\u0141ukasz \u017bal<\/strong>. The film&#8217;s fixed shots that are filled with unspeakable emotions brought <strong>\u017bal<\/strong> his third <strong><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">EnergaCAMERIMAGE<\/span><\/strong> Main Competition nomination &#8211; previously, he was awarded with Golden Frog for <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Ida<\/span><\/em> (shared with <strong>Ryszard Lenczewski<\/strong>, 2013) and Silver Frog for <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Cold War<\/span><\/em> (2018). <strong>\u017bal<\/strong> was also nominated in four other Festival&#8217;s competitions: Student Etudes Competition (<em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Mistrz \u015bwiata<\/span><\/em>, 2006), Short Documentary Films Competition (<em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Paparazzi<\/span><\/em>, 2011; <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Left Side of the Face<\/span><\/em>, 2013; <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">Joanna<\/span><\/em>, 2013), Cinematographers&#8217; Debuts Competition (<em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Here After<\/span><\/em>, 2015) and Polish Films Competition (<em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The Here After<\/span><\/em>, 2015; <em><span style=\"color: #d29600;\">The High Frontier<\/span><\/em>, 2016).
