Hiroyuki<\/b>\u00a0Sanada\u00a0<\/b>is an international star, one of Japan’s most distinguished and celebrated, award-winning actors of his generation. He has starred in over fifty films since he was five years old. He played the leading role in\u00a0<\/span>The Twilight Samurai <\/span><\/i><\/span>(2002, dir.\u00a0<\/span>Y\u00f4ji Yamada<\/b>), which was nominated for an Academy Award\u00ae.\u00a0<\/div>\n

For television,\u00a0Sanada\u00a0<\/b>currently stars in and is producing an original adaptation of\u00a0<\/span>Sh\u014dgun<\/span><\/i><\/span>, a series for FX where he plays the role of Lord Toranaga, for which he earned two 2024 Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, and as a producer of Outstanding Drama Series.\u00a0Sanada\u00a0<\/b>also earned a 2024 Television Critics Association Award nomination for Individual Achievement in Drama, and the show won the TCA Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Program of the Year, as well as Outstanding New Program.

With the huge success of\u00a0<\/span>Sh\u014dgun<\/span><\/i><\/span>,\u00a0Sanada’s<\/b>\u00a0star continues to rise. He was last seen in the popular action franchise,\u00a0<\/span>John Wick: Chapter 4<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0(2023), opposite\u00a0Keanu Reeves<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Donnie Yen<\/b>, directed by\u00a0Chad Stahelski<\/b>. Before that,\u00a0Sanada <\/b>appeared in the Sony Pictures’ action feature,\u00a0<\/span>Bullet Train<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0(2022), opposite\u00a0Brad Pitt<\/b>, and\u00a0Sandra Bullock<\/b>. The film is directed by\u00a0David Leitch<\/b>. Other works include\u00a0Zack Snyder’s<\/b>\u00a0highly anticipated<\/span>\u00a0Army of the Dead<\/span><\/span><\/i>\u00a0(2021) for Netflix, and the\u00a0James Wan<\/b>-produced fantasy-action film,\u00a0<\/span>Mortal Kombat<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(2021) for Warner Bros. Sanada’s<\/b>\u00a0first major Hollywood appearance was in\u00a0<\/span>The Last Samurai\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span>(2003) opposite\u00a0Tom Cruise<\/b>, later appearing in such blockbuster films as\u00a0<\/span>The Wolverine <\/span><\/i><\/span>(2013),\u00a0<\/span>47 Ronin<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0(2013),\u00a0<\/span>Avengers Endgame<\/span><\/i><\/span>\u00a0(2019), and\u00a0<\/span>Minions<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(2015).\u00a0Sanada’s\u00a0<\/b>career is just as impressive on the small screen, having appeared in dozens of shows including the critically acclaimed series,\u00a0<\/span>Lost<\/span><\/i>, for their final season, and\u00a0<\/span>Westworld<\/span> <\/span><\/i>season 2.<\/span><\/div>\n

He is also an established stage actor, working in both Japanese and British theatres.
