The Management of the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography PLUS CAMERIMAGE<\/span><\/b> would once again like to express our grief and sorrow caused by the recent passing of an outstanding cinematographer, a wonderful person and a great friend, Laszlo Kovacs<\/b>. He was repeatedly our guest at the Festival for many years and we had a tremendous honour to work with him and also to get to know him as a friend. <\/p>\n Widely known and appreciated for his great skills and talents he was a true master of filmmaking. He started his career in Hungary, where he was born and where he studied at State Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest<\/b>. It was there where he filmed the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, together with Vilmos Zsigmond<\/b>, a fellow student and his close friend. Shortly after coming to the USA he shot Easy Rider<\/i> which gained him a worldwide recognition. During his fruitful career he made more than 70 feature films<\/b> and received many awards and nominations. In 1998 we had an honor to present him the Camerimage Lifetime Achievement Award<\/b>. In 2002 he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award<\/b> from The American Society of Cinematographers<\/b>.<\/p>\n He was an inspiration for many film school students who had a chance to learn from him also at numerous editions of Camerimage Festival<\/b>. He was always willing to help and give his support to the education and training of the youth. In recognition of Laszlo Kovacs\u2019 huge commitment in the talents development of young cinematographers, the organizers of PLUS CAMERIMAGE<\/span><\/b> would like to pay homage to this legendary artist.
