We are honored to announce that Anton Corbijn<\/b> is the Laureate of the Special Award to Director for Exceptional Achievements in the Field of Music Videos<\/b>. <\/p>\n
Anton Corbijn<\/b> was born in Strijen, Netherlands. He started his career as a photographer in the 70s and in 1979 he moved to UK where he photographed the most popular bands and artists of the time including Joy Division<\/b> and Public Image Ltd<\/b>. He became a regular photographer for the New Musical Express and later he also worked for other magazines such as Spin, Details, Vogue, and Rolling Stone Magazine to mention just a few. His photographs where presented at various exhibitions across the world, and the list of artists he photographed include Frank Sinatra, John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, David Bovie, Clint Eastwood, Johnny Deep, Nicolas Cage, Rudger Hauer<\/b> and many others. His works also included sleeve photographs for records of U2, Depeche Mode, R.E.M<\/b> or Bon Jovie<\/b> to mention just a few. <\/p>\n
Corbijn is also one of the most outstanding directors of music videos. He is widely acknowledged for being the creative director of videos for U2, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, Metallica<\/b> and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds<\/b>. Apart from working on more than 60 music videos he has also directed few shorts and documentaries.<\/p>\n
This year the first feature film Control<\/i><\/span> directed by Anton Corbijn<\/b> had its premiere. The movie depicts the life of Joy Division<\/b> front man Ian Curtis<\/b> starting from his adolescence to his suicidal death in 1980 on a day before their first American tour. Suffering from epilepsy, Curtis in his gloomy lyrics raised issues of loneliness in the urban surroundings, problems with communication with other people, lack of faith and meaning of existence. <\/p>\n We will present the movie during this year\u2019s PLUS CAMERIMAGE 2007<\/span><\/b> Festival as a competitive movie of the Main Competition.
