They collaborated on 12 films. The questions asked focused on the base of such a long-term collaboration and on the movie: the choice of Hrabal’s novel, special effects as well as Czech comedy in general.

Meeting of Alan Parker and Michael Seresin with students
This duo also receives a special award at Plus Camerimage 2007. Except answers for many questions related to their collaboration, the filmmakers also gave their younger colleagues various advices, and the most important one touched the cinematographer’s sense of actor’s work. As Alan Parker emphasized, the difficult skill of not interrupting actors’ work is very important, since such interruption can waste even a whole day on the set.

Press conference of Stephen Goldblatt
The guest talked about the beginning of his career. He admitted that The Hunger was the most important for him. He also talked about his work experience with many directors. He has always tried to work with those, who allowed him to supplement their work with his own creative ideas. Also his photographic body of work was in the area of interest of the audience.

Meeting of Christopher Doyle with students
Doyle emphasized the meaning of communication and intent during the process of moviemaking. The meeting included also fragments of presentation Wind and Rain. Rain is Rain Li, cinematographer collaborating with Christopher Doyle. Wind is Doyle himself.

Plus Camerimage Forum
Plus Camerimage Forum was one of the events accompanying the festival. It focused on legal issues, both in terms of copyrights, as well as cinematographers’ working conditions. Much attention was given to copyrights in the context of modern digital technologies and mobile media devices.

Press conference of the creators of Hope
The audience met with Krzysztof Ptak (cinematographer), Zbigniew Domagalski (producer) and Rafał Fudalej (actor). Hope directed by Stanisław Mucha, is the first movie of a planned series “Faith, Hope, Love”, written by Krzysztof Piesiewicz. Krzysztof Ptak was asked about support given by him, an experienced filmmaker, to his colleagues. He emphasized the meaning of cooperation and compromise.

Meeting of Ang Lee with studends
Festival guests, mainly film school students, who participated in the meeting, wanted to find out what movies influenced the director’s style of work and inspired him. Lee emphasized there were many. There is no single, favorite category of the film he relates to. Instead, he tries to watch very diversified films, also in terms of genre, representing different styles of narration. He successfully merges not only cultural traditions, but also styles.

Kodak Presentation
Kodak presented new technologies of improving the quality of film image. The company has recently invested into research allowing development of new techniques of quality improvement. New generation film stock was presented: Vision3 500T 5219/7219, along with a demonstration film. New Kodak digital technologies are very useful, both for production and postproduction, and, among others, allow to distinguish details in highly lit picture. Thorough comparison of Vision 5218 and the new Vision 5219 was made.

Meeting with J. Laskowski and W. Sobociński
The meeting related to the 50th anniversary of Lodz Film School. Students went onto a sentimental voyage, from the beginning of moviemaking to the contemporary times. Both gentlemen admit that today’s technology incredibly helps in cinematographer’s work, but at the same time digital technology breaks discipline of the actors. Contemporary cinema does not tell enough with images, it has too much text in it. Also issues of working in Poland and abroad were touched. Both guests have strong faith in the young people and call for less TV series and more ambitious movies.

New media and film
At the conference room of the Grand Theatre an international conference “New Media and Film” took place. Speakers: Aleks Tarkowski, Dawid Marcinkowski, Paweł Janicki, Mirosław Filiciak, Richard Bartel, Michael Lew, Tom Putzka and Jakub Brzęczkowski talked about the new media of transmitting the content and creating a movie. They agreed the new technology gives interesting means of reaching and interacting with the audience.

Murray Close’s meeting with students.
He has been a photographer for 26 years, spending thousands of hours on a set. He says working there is like dancing, requiring sense, delicacy and synchronization. He says a priority in working with a crew is recognizing the rules. He values Stanley Kubrick the most. He has photographed, among others: Jacka Nicolson, George Clooney, Richard Gere, Keanu Reeves. Asked if he would like to be a cinematographer he answers: “I wouldn’t survive five minutes!”

Press conference of Jiri Menzel and Jaromir Sofr The filmmakers receive the award for cinematographer-director duo, and are also creators…

[146

post-9722","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-wiadomosci-plus-camerimage-2007
