The cinematographer and the director of one of the best polish films, that was launched lately, met with the audience on Thursday. Their work of art - “Wróżby kumaka" is presented within Polish Films’ Review.

The scenario to the film is made on the basis of Gunter Grass’s book. The action of “Wróżby kumaka" takes place partly nowadays and partly during The Second World War. “We wanted to differentiate these two historical realities by cinematographer’s activity" - told Petrycki. “Gliński asked for lively work of camera but without earthquake. Retrospections are like an old photos. Beside the work of camera, an important thing is a differential of colors, especially the red one, which is characteristic for totalitarianism.

The audience asked also about the fact why often pictures from the past times were funny. “These flashbacks were designed to be short and pithy. It was a synthesis, a sign, not true and fair reconstruction of the history" Petrycki said. “Irony is a one of ways to talk about important matters."

It occurred that specification of Polish and German cooperation, caused the necessity of making compromises during montage of the film. Gliński said: “I wanted to make this film more subjective. We have in film three spheres of time: historical, the sphere of presence and the thread of old woman from Kaszuby with the frog. I wanted to find a balance between them. Unfortunately Germans still cut the last thread."

Gunther Grass did not have any stipulation to production - “He is a very nice partner but a little bit moody, however he accepted majority of our ideas." Said the director of the film. He also added that the most difficult challenge were photos in the crypt. “It was impossible for me to place there with the cinematographer, so I had to watch everything on the screen. What is more in the crypt lied a real, 300 years old corpse. Krystyna Janda did not want to play next to him... But I feel that generally it was medium film taking into consideration the criterion of difficulty."

Gliński admitted, that the film did not have a good channels of distribution, but he believe in his better future. Especially interesting is the fact that the film had better reviews in Germany that in Poland. “Our production did not bring big profits. However it is not a "film hamburger", that is made for fast money. It will be up to date and still interesting even after ten years." ended Gliński.
