Film and Art School Etudes Panorama is a non-competitive section at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival featuring student fiction shorts whose high visual and artistic qualities make them a must-see at our film festival.

BLACK BLACK NIGHT

A middle-aged man and an eccentric teen Ilona are two strangers meeting at night. Together they seek to find an escape from personal loneliness.

CRAZY CRABS FROM OUTER SPACE

Pirjo, still stuck in her past, gets kidnapped by her pet crab Sebastian who turns out to be an alien. Sebastian wants to save her since the world is about to end at 10 o’clock today. However, Pirjo refuses to leave the planet without a memento of her beloved Ester and Sebastian won’t leave without his friend. The clock is ticking.

GET HOME SAFE

Maya is a volunteer at the Way-Home-Phone, a service for anyone who feels unsafe on the way home at night and would like a reassuring voice to accompany them through the night. One evening, she receives a call from Lea, who shortly before had an unpleasant encounter with a stranger. At first Maya wants to have the usual conversation with her, but soon it turns out that Lea is being followed by the stranger.

OUT OF WATER

Zosia is a 13-year-old CODA girl – the hearing child of deaf parents. Together with her dad, she heads off to fight for participation in the swimming competition she has dreamed of, which, due to her father’s oversight, she was not allowed to enter. Along the way, they face complications that put Zosia in the role of an interpreter and intermediary between her deaf dad and the rest of the world. Having a voice becomes not only a privilege for the girl, but also a burden.

Each year hundreds of students from all over the world come to EnergaCAMERIMAGE. For many of them, a week at the festival feels like they are taking part in a short yet extensive film course. It’s like a knowledge given in a nutshell.

We know how important, especially for young filmmakers, who are just at the beginning of this tough and demanding path is the opinion and advice of experienced filmmakers.

That is why, this year, the Film and Art School Etudes Panorama will be followed by the Round Table session – equal and open discussion devoted to the cinema. The authors of presented films will be joined by the acclaimed filmmakers Oliver Stapleton, BSC and Stephen Lighthill, ASC.

We believe that the participant of the very first Round Table will gain a valuable experience, and will get to know not only other fellow filmmakers but thanks to that they will have a unique chance for knowledge exchange.

After each block of the Film and Art School Etudes Panorama, approx. 90 minutes discussion will be carried on, conducted by Oliver Stapleton, BSC and Stephen Lighthill, ASC and with participation of the authors of the screened etudes.
