The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography CAMERIMAGE is not only about wonderful films and fantastic workshops, seminars, lectures or exhibitions. It is also a place where you can meet professionals from around the world who probably shot, edited or directed the films that made you love cinema, or have the potential to do that for the future generations of moviegoers. Here is the fifth of a few newsletters that we will send out to introduce the phenomenal guests of Camerimage 2013 - the true celebrities of our Festival.

ALBERT HUGHES

American director, screenwriter and producer, born in 1972 in Detroit. Since 2004 he has lived in Czech Republic. He got his first film camera when he was just 12 years old, together with his twin brother, Allen Hughes, they made such films as Menace II Society, which was presented at Cannes Film Festival, The Book of Eli and From Hell, starring Johnny Depp. Moreover, they made a documentary American Pimp, on which he was also a cinematographer. He attended Camerimage Festival four times, in 2010 and 2012 he was on the Polish Films Competition jury and in 2011 he was the head of the Directors' Debuts Competition jury.

JOS STELLING

Dutch director, screenwriter and producer, born in 1945 in Utrecht. Self-taught, he made his first film, Mariken van Nieumegen, in 1975. He is a founder and an owner of two cinemas in Utrecht, Springhaven and Louis Hartlooper Complex. In 1981 he created Dutch Film Days festival, now known as Dutch Film Festival. His most recent film, The Girl and Death, was very well-received at the festival in Milan as well as at Nederlands Film Festival, where its cinematographer Goert Giltay received an award for best cinematography. His film The Flying Dutchman was awarded a Sliver Frog at Camerimage Festival, in 2012 he was the head of the Directors' Debuts Competition jury.

ALAN BARKER

American cinematographer and sound engineer. His body of works includes numerous documentaries, such as Dogtown and Z-Boys, Love, Marilyn with Elizabeth Banks> and Glenn Close or West of Memphis, co-produced by Peter Jackson. A documentary he shot, which highlights the dangers caused by the lack of sleep, Who Needs Sleep? directed by Haskell Wexler, was presented at Camerimage Festival in 2006, while in 2011 he was on the Feature Length Documentary Films Competition jury.

DANIEL PEARL

American cinematographer, born in 1951 in New York. Member of ASC since 2004. During his career he has shot many commercials and music videos, he worked with the biggest pop stars in the world: The Police, Madonna or Michael Jackson. Numerous times nominated for the MTV Award, he received it twice for a music video to Every Breath You Take by The Police and November Rain by Guns N'Roses. In 1996 he received the MVPA Lifetime Achievement Award. He made such films as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre directed by Tobe Hooper and its 2003 remake by Marcus Nispel. He has visited Camerimage Festival five times, in 2006 he received the Special Award for the Creator of Music Videos and Commercials with Unique Visual Sensitivity, in 2008 he was on the Nokia Mobile Movie Competition jury, in 2010 and 2011 - on the Music Video Competition jury, and in the following year - on the Cinematographers' Debuts Competition jury.

TONY LAWSON

British editor, born in 1944 in London. He started his career in the sixties as an assistant editor to Ann Chegwidden and Norman Savage. He collaborated with the most famous film directors in the world, among others with Stanley Kubrick on Barry Lyndon, Sam Peckinpah on Straw Dogs and Cross of Iron and, finally, with Neil Jordan, with whom he made 9 films and a TV show The Borgias. Their most recent film, Byzatium, will be presented at this year's edition of Camerimage Festival in the non-competition section of European Panorama.

LAWRENCE GROBEL

American writer and journalist, born in 1947 in New York. He wrote eighteen books and collaborated with such newspapers and magazines as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Playboy and with the Polish magazine - Trendy. Famous for his interviews with, among others, Al Pacino and Marlon Brando, he also used to give lectures on the art of interviewing at UCLA. In 2012 he appeared in Wilde Salome and in a Shane Salerno's film about J.D. Salinger. He has visited Camerimage Festival five times. In 2007 he was on the Main Competition jury, in 2009 and 2010 - on the Documentary Films Competition jury, and in 2012 - on the Short Documentary Films Competition jury.
