The International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography CAMERIMAGE is not only about wonderful films and fantastic workshops, seminars, lectures or exhibitions. It is also a place where you can meet professionals from around the world who probably shot, edited or directed the films that made you love cinema, or have the potential to do that for the future generations of moviegoers. Here is the third of a few newsletters that we will send out to introduce the phenomenal guests of Camerimage 2013 - the true celebrities of our Festival.

CHRIS DOYLE

Australian cinematographer, actor and director, born in 1952 in Sydney. Member of HKSC. Before he discovered cinema, he took up different professions; he has worked, among others, as an oil driller in India and a cow herder in Israel. At the end of the seventies he moved to Taiwan, where he got involved in theatre and photography. He is famous for images saturated in bright hues. His collaboration with Wong Kar-Wai brought him worldwide recognition, they have shot eight films together, including Happy Together and In the Mood for Love. Even though he tends to be identified with Asian cinema, he has also worked with Gus Van Sant, Barry Levinson and Phillip Noyce. Recipient of many awards, he was nominated twice for a Golden Frog for his cinematography on Hero and Rabbit-Proof Fence. His seminars at Camerimage Festival have enjoyed great popularity.

JEFFREY KIMBALL

American cinematographer, born in 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. Member of ASC since 1990. He shot his first films on weekends with an 8mm camera bought with money earned on selling newspapers. He has collaborated, among others, with John Woo, with whom he made four films, such as Mission: Impossible II and Windtalkers, and with Tony Scott. His dynamical cinematography has revolutionized the visual language of action cinema. He has shot such blockbusters as Beverly Hills Cop II, Star Trek: Nemesis and, and last but not least, Top Gun, which will be screened in 3D during this year's edition of Camerimage Festival.

STUART DRYBURGH

British cinematographer, born in 1952 in London, member of ASC and NZCS. At the age of 9 he moved to New Zealand, where he spent his childhood and youth. He first worked on set as a gaffer. His collaboration with Jane Campion brought him fame. They made An Angel at My Table, The Portrait of a Lady and The Piano. For the last one he received an Australian Film Institute Award, an Oscar nomination and the first Golden Frog in the history of Camerimage Festival. Through his cinematography he puts emphasis on accentuating the beauty of the landscape, the painterly use of colour and playing with light, as seen in Once Were Warriors by Lee Tamahori. In his prolific output there are such blockbusters as Bridget Jones's Diary and Analyze This, he also worked on famous TV shows: Sex and the City and Boardwalk Empire. Frequent guest of Camerimage Festival, in 1994 he was on the Main Competition jury, and in 2012 - on the Cinematographer's Debut Competition jury.

GLEN MACPHERSON

Canadian cinematographer, born in Montreal in 1957. Member of CSC and ASC. He owes his fascination with photography to his grandfather, who was an artist. Pretending to be a delivery man, he landed his first job on set of Quintet by Robert Altman. His first film was Snake Eater with Lorenzo Lamas, in the following years he became well-known thanks to such action films as Romeo Must Die, directed by famous Polish cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak and Rambo. His technically accomplished style was appreciated by Paul W.S. Anderson, with whom he made four films, including Resident Evil: Retribution and The Three Musketeers, both in 3D.

RACHEL MORRISON

American cinematographer. Through her cinematography she tries to capture the dichotomy between what is real and what is imagined. In 2006 she was nominated for an Emmy for the documentary Rikers High. In 2013 she made Any Day Now with Alan Cumming, which received an Audience Award at Tribeca Film Festival, and Fruitvale Station directed by Ryan Coogler, which was awarded at Sundance Film Festival. In order to create an impression of authenticity she decided to shoot the latter in Super 16. Still Life, a short film she shot, directed by Manesh Pailoor, was presented at Camerimage Festival as part of the Student Etudes Competition section in 2007.

ANASTAS MICHOS

American cinematographer, member of ASC. He began his career working on commercials and music videos. Before he became a cinematographer, he had worked as a camera and Steadicam operator for over 10 years. He made Born on the Fourth of July with Oliver Stone and The Age of Innocence and Shine a Light with Martin Scorsese, among others. His resume mentions pieces from almost every genre, from a musical (Sparkle) to a horror film (Texas Chainsaw 3D) and a romantic comedy (The Women). He was twice the guest of Camerimage Festival; in 2009 he was on the Main Competition jury and the following year - on the Short Documentary Films Competition jury.
