Here are four films of the Feature Length Documentary Films Competition “IMAGE OF THE WORLD - WORLD IN IMAGES" under the patronage of DISCOVERY NETWORKS CEEMEA!



Men's School

We who are the children of poor peasants have our backs curved from the weight of the burden we have been carrying, which is the same as the adults. That is how it is, and why shouldn't we be able to do that, given that we wear their cast-off clothes and use the words they don't use anymore? Our thighs hurt from the effort of walking with the same long steps as the grown-ups. Of course, it is hard to be like the grown-ups, but what choice are we left with, given that we haven't ever been allowed to be kids? When we go back to school after being ill, the richest peasants' children whisper in our ears, but not so low as to not be heard by the teacher, that walking down the street they have seen us on all fours in the potato field.

It is not true, they can't have seen us, because we don't jump and stretch out in the furrows when kids who have the right to be kids walk down the street. It is impossible to hide the real nature of our illness, because our hands are never clean in the autumn. We scratch and rub them with a brush but October's soil stays where it is, in the spaces between our knuckles and all around our nails. If a real kid comes and sees us, and wants to play his games, we feel ashamed, we take him behind a depot where nobody can see us, and there we play his childish games: of course we don't play well, we stumble when jumping the rope and throw the marbles too hard. For this reason our playmates don't come back any more, they soon get bored of us, they say we are clumsy and dumb. And it's true, when we are with them we feel exactly like that. For this, we feel happy when they go away, even if we know they won't ever come back again.

Position Among the Stars

“Position Among the Stars", the final part of a trilogy, follows the award-winning documentaries “Eye of the Day" and “Shape of the Moon" (Joris Ivens Award IDFA 2004 - World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize Sundance 2005). Through the eyes of grandmother Rumidjah, a poor, old Christian woman living in the slums of Jakarta, we see the economically changing society of Indonesia and the influence of globalization reflected in the life of her juvenile granddaughter, Tari, and her sons, Bakti and Dwi.

Invisible Strings - The Talented Pusker Sisters

Teenage sisters, Júlia and Ágnes, have been living with music since childhood. Both play the violin, but only one of them achieves spectacular success. However, competition is not what defines their relationship - the two sisters have a more profound and complicated connection than it might seem.

To a large extent, it was shaped by painful events from the past that each of them had to face in her own way. The older and less talented Pusker sister fears that one day this tragic story may repeat itself.

Epilogue

Neel, 50 years old and the mother of three, is terminally ill. Neel is determined to spend her remaining time as best as possible and to die in the right frame of mind.

Epilogue combines heaviness and lightness with poetry, and evokes questions about the end of life in a unique way. The film shows us a process for which there are no guidelines.

The Feature Length Documentary Films Competition "IMAGE OF THE WORLD - WORLD IN IMAGES" is organized for the fourth time, under the patronage of DISCOVERY NETWORKS CEEMEA.

The aim of the competition is to appreciate documentary films as a creative interpretation of reality. The jury focuses on the visual and aesthetical part of a movie and judges the achievements in the area of film images, awarding best cinematographers among those selected to the competition.
