VIRTUAL REALITY AT CAMERIMAGE

It is our great pleasure to announce that during this year’s edition of Camerimage Festival our guests will have a unique opportunity to enter the world of virtual reality through participating in three events connected to VR:

  • VR and computer games, based on Alice Adventures in Virtual Reality
    [Carbon Studio seminar]
  • VR and the classical methods of storytelling, similarities and differences
    [Maciej Gliwa’s seminar, Baobab Studios]
  • Digital painting – easel vs. virtual gallery
    [exhibition by Polish Digital Art project]

On Monday, the  14th of November, Camerimage participants will have a chance to attend a seminar by Carbon Studio (company from Gliwice, Poland) that created the adventure science-fiction game ALICE VR. During the seminar, key members of the team that created the game will discuss what VR is and why filmmakers should be interested in it. They will explain the difficulties they faced during the process of creating the game, and how they managed to deal with them. Finally, they will try to answer the question of how we can use the old, proven ways of presenting fictional worlds in the new medium – VR.

After the seminar, the participants are invited to join Carbon Studio team in the Opera Nova Congress Centre, 3rd Floor hall, near the Conference Room, where everyone will have a chance to fully experience the world the company created in VR.

Two days later, on Wednesday, the 16th of November, Maciej Gliwa, the animation supervisor on INVASION!, produced by Baobab Studios, will talk about storytelling in virtual reality and challenges related to this new medium. He will explain the things he learned after he transitioned from DreamWorks Animation to the VR industry, and share his thoughts regarding VR as a new medium for creating new worlds and ways of storytelling.

After the seminar, the participants are invited to join Maciej Gliwa and the Polish Digital Art team in the Opera Nova Congress Centre, 3rd Floor hall, near the Conference Room, where the author will present animated films created entirely in the VR technology, giving the audience a chance to experience it fully in VR.

During most of the festival’s week, from the 13th to the 18th of November, Polish Digital Art will be presenting an Exhibition of Digital Paintingwith the support of VR Technology. The exhibition of the works created by the artists from Warsaw-based company Polish Digital Art shows a series of works in the form of a classic exhibition, and at the same time in virtual reality. On a workstation, the participants will be able to experience VR using HTC Vive and see the exhibition in virtual gallery, and even try digital painting by themselves.
